I replaced rotor and dont know if i packed bearings correctly would this be the cause of when i full engage the brake in motion that my car makes a hard thud sound. Also i was told to tighten the nut after the rotor just barely snug, Is that right?

With the 2wd bearing setup I will usually tighten the nut finger tight while spinning the rotor to seat the bearings, then I take a socket and give the nut another 1/8 turn or so. Install the retainer and cotter pin and you should be good to go.

By the book, (or the generic book I was taught to use LOL)

While spinning the rotor tighten the nut to around 20ft pounds. This will fully seat the bearings. Then back up the nut so it's loose...and then tighten finger tight and install the cotter key. Recheck the rotor to ensure correct play and spins free.

That's the way I've always done wheel bearings and have never had one fail due to improper installation. (now failing due to beating the snot out of the front end? That's a different story LOL) Point being, you want to tighten it down while spinning it to seat the bearings...and then back it off and re-tighten to what can best be described 'finger tight'. (the manual for the trucks actually lists the 'exact' specs)

Yeah sometimes I get caught up in a project and I forget I have a book.
Thanks
