While I'm sitting on the highway I figureed I'd see what y'all thought about why my 89 b2 shut off while driving.
I was just driving down the highway and it just quit. Check engine lights come on, I have my scan tool and it came back with everything working and saved code 15. Its hard to hear if my fuel pump comes on and the shut off switch is fine. It turns over just fine but a little freely than usual, not sure if you know what it sounds like when it turns over and starts but now its just a little quicker if that makes sense. Any thoughts? Just enjoying my time waiting for the tow truck.

Check the black and black/white wires near the battery are OK. I've had that wire get eaten by the alternator fan or just come apart, and that will shut off the computer and everything it runs.

Well if the computer didn't have power would the check engine lights come on still? I just got her home so I'm gonna start checking for spark and I'll check those wires too. Maybe a relay?

Turning over a little too freely could indicate a timing belt issue...since the heads are not actually turning over with the crank...

Since I don't know anything about the 2.9 that's my 5¢ worth...it's gone up since Canada eliminated the penny...

OBD I code 15 is a no power at PCM pin 1 or bad PCM (Memory Test Failure)

So I would check adsm08's wires

Sounds to me like the timing chain jumped a tooth. Not that hard to fix for the mechanically inclined.

Hey Shane....timing chains can jump a tooth you know.

(I just had to mess with you a little :-))

Did I say somewhere that it wouldn't? Mark said belt, I was just saying it has a chain, not a belt.

I also said I know little or nothing about the 2.9...:)

Oh, is the OP still on the side of the road? I hope not...that would take some endurance and a great deal of faith that someone on TRS is going to help him solve his problem...hope he brought plenty of snack foods and some TP...

yes, amazing how a love so right can turn out so wrong...Bee Gee's...lol~
