Would a Barra with a Frontier CD009 6 speed be a possible swap in a 2000 Ranger? Instead of a 5.0 stroked to 331 or 347 with 100 or 150 shot making 500-550whp a Barra with mild upgrades if it will fit could easily make that amount of power extremely reliably. Plus the Barra I believe would probably have a better more usable power range.

Which engine are you referring to? There's a whole series of I6 and V8 'barra' engines in Australia, but those have been out of production for years.

From what I understand, putting an inline 6 in a Ranger is a very difficult task due to the length. I seem to remember seeing someone do it. So, it isn't impossible.

If it's a V6, the limitation is engine width. There are some engines that get passed up for swaps into Rangers because the engine is too wide. Though, even with those engines, I've seen a swap or two that was supposed to be not possible.

So, with enough time, money, and patience, anything is possible. Some swaps are just not advisable for most.

Particularly when you're talking about importing from another continent, making spare parts a nightmare.

The 5.0 swap is popular into Rangers because they came from the factory in Explorers, so it's more or less a bolt in affair with the right year donor/recipient.

A Barra swap would be the complete opposite. Tons of custom work. Transmission, PCM, mounts, cooling system, exhaust, etc all custom.

There are some facebook groups for Barra swaps, but they're not for the faint of heart. They take a lot of skill and/or money to get right.

I’d start here https://barratheworld.com/pages/barra-fg-na-motor-measurements

Do you have 31 inches from the bell housing to the radiator?

Guys have shoehorned the 300 i6 in rbv’s so the 4L i6 should fit.

I learned about the i6 barra back in 2005 almost Popped a blood vessel, Thinking about all the misery I’ve had from the cologne essex & vulcan engines. We could’ve had a cross flow head in-line six but no V engines are better!
