I am looking to remove the silencer between the front edge of the air box and the backside of the passenger headlight. I know there was a post on this earlier but I can not find it. Does this add any performance? I am going to throw in a k&n air filter too.

Thanks,

-Jason

No it won't add performance. The only thing you'll notice is maybe some more noise.

it aint worth the time or hassle to remove it, just do your k+n and call it good

Alright, thanks for the help guys. I was out fiddling with the air box today. When I put it back together I forgot to put the clips on the back side of the air box back into the grooves and it made the truck really throaty and loud, which I like. Will this harm anything or is it ok to leave the top of the box resting on the lower half? Also, bikerboy where did you get your underdrive pulleys? Did you notice a difference after putting them in?

Thanks,
-Jason

the two halves of the air filter box need to be clipped together in order for the air filter to seal and do its job.

if you want the truck to be loud, feel free to remove the intake silencer. it wont hurt anything, just make the truck louder.

X2^^^^^
it takes all of 10 seconds to pull the silencer.
take out you air filter, reach down, grab, yank, and tada!!!!!!!

WOW, after reading what i just typed^^^^^ I think it should go in the tech library!!!!!:icon_rofl::icon_twisted::icon_rofl:

Also, bikerboy where did you get your underdrive pulleys? Did you notice a difference after putting them in?

Thanks,

I got it from HERE. Yes i felt a slight difference and also gained a mpg or so. I consider it worth it.

Well, Beef i tried your method and no go as of right now. Does anybody know of a step by way to do remove one? Or even instructions on how to remove the lower half of the air filter box.

cannot remove the lower half of the airbox as the intake air temp sensor is mounted in it, and doing so would have the same effect as putting a round filter on the trk, you now have a hot air intake. the lower airbox attaches to the intake tract that goes thru the quarterpanel and below the headlight. removing it is not necessary nor recommended, and if you cant find the silencer its a good possiblility that it is removed already. post pictures for the rest of us to see and we can def rule out whether it is there or not.

I know the silencer is still...im not blind.

This is what it looks like

This obviously isnt my truck. I pulled these pics off photobucket

all i did was grab the silencer inside the air box, wiggle and shake and pull and it should pop out.

So, I figured it out. Turns out I had to pull up on the silencer to yank it out. Thanks for all your help guys the truck sounds ten times better now!
