side exit before rear tire

First, way to revive a dead thread...haha =p


Second, as for price its going to vary. Side-Exit exhaust is completely custom work, as I know of no company that makes a cat-back side exit setup. The best way to know what its going to cost you is to go to your local exhaust shop, tell em what you want, and see what their asking price is.

Third, power gains from simple cat-back modifications on RBVs are going to be minimal. The engines dont put out enough power to make non-restrictive exhaust a nessecity, or even much more than simple fun. If your looking for actual numbers, dont believe the dynosheets that Magnaflow or Flowmaster display on their websites. They are quite often inflated.

If your looking to get some extra oomph from your 4.0 Mazda.... I'd suggest installing a set of headers. The stock manifolds are somewhat restrictive...but not a whole lot. JBA and Pacesetter both do a set of headers for the 4.0 SOHC motor, and at least Pacesetter does (or used to) a set for the 4.0 OHV.

After you install the Headers would probably the best time to have the custom side-exits installed. Or do both at once. Its up to you. I only put the exhaust on mine because I like being loud....

Yeah don't expect any power. The custom bent pipe for mine was $20 at an exhaust shop, and then a bunch of my time to make it work.

no i actually just darkened the wheel some. if the engine is tuned you dont have to worry about that for the most part.

i will have to say that depending on what state u live in this idea is bad. i used to live in buffalo,new york and i had a straight piped 2.3 witha glass pack cut bfor the axle. well cops hate that kinda thing up here. ive had two exhaust tickets in a matter of 1 month. then i moved out into the country changed my exhaust to run out the back with a import 3a racing muffler. It def was a better idea. With the side exit idea u get a lot of fumes and make a hell of a lot of nice like that. Granted i still do but i suggest goin out the back my ticket issue is going away along with prolonged brain activity lol. i just thought i would give my two cents.

just another tidbit, I put on a dynomax muffler and cut it short and dumped it out before the rear wheel, but... i have a cap, the emissions guys told me it was illegal because i can technically ride people around back there, so I had to spend 150 getting it back to original set up. still got the muffler but it sounded a bit better to me when it didnt have to go through so much pipe...

That's retarded, the stock pipe still doesn't exit "behind" the bed . A lot of stock F150s had before tire exits, so if you put a canopy on one of those is that illegal?
I just put a 40 series on my Dakota, before the rear tire just like my B2, sounds awesome. Never been bothered at emissions with my B2 so I don't expect to be bothered with my Dakota.

depending on the state the exhaust exit requirements are dif. here in la the law says over the axle and exit the vehicle, dumps and b4 the tire are illegal. anything catless or w/ glasspacks (classified as not mufflers here) is not legal either. we dont have emissions but those are our rules. most cops dont bother w/ the tkts unless it is rediculously loud in city limits. the only exception to the front of tire dump is if the vehicle had it installed from the factory, roush edition mustangs and f150s were the only exceptions here, and if the exhaust was modified in any way (new mufflers, tips or cat changes) the law said it had to be dumped over the axle and exit the vehicle anyway. if the setup was chosen to be changed, you had to change it the whole way, i know a person that does inspections and lets me do as i damn well so im not worried about it. lucky me...
