Should we be left to ourselves?

well now that you brought up driving,,,,

remember the big issue with motorcycle helmet laws back in the 60s?

"it's my head, so bug off and leave me alone" was the battle cry.

"I'm from the government, and I WILL help save you from yourself" was the reasoning from the states.

it seems government over reach has been a debatable issue for quite some time.

( I should have typed faster, Jim just took some wind out of my sails)

Yes, I think people should be able to wear or not wear a helmet OR seat belts, their choice
But then insurance companies should be able to default on any injury claims from not wearing a helmet or seat belt, their choice

Accident may be my fault but I shouldn't have to pay for injuries that were your fault/choice, I will pay to fix your bike or car, after all that part was my fault

In the law there is the principle to "mitigate damages"
"A person who claims damages as a result of an alleged wrongful act on the part of another has a duty under the law to "mitigate" those damages"

Now here's an Interesting thought. That person wouldnt have been injured had you (or whomever) didn't crash into them. An argument could be made that your responsible for like 45% of injury the other 55% was from no seat belt.

Anyway these are all quite interesting aruments/ perspectives. Though I don't think gov has the right to step in to quite this extent. Even though the supporting reasons are quite strong.

This is one helluva a gray area. Hhmm

What about on the subject of just of lockdowns I guess. Closing business over it. Would the economic long term damage be worth the short term gains? Taking into consideration the loss of jobs and livelyhoods. Etc etc

Now this doesn't mean I'm completely against everything thats been done in an effort to combat this sickness.
I'm just of the mindset that we had best be very careful how far we let gov into our personal lives.

History tends to show that once you give them something even with the intention of it being temporary they tend to keep it longer than we like.

People are having fits because Jeff Bezos and Amazon are getting so rich, especially during the pandemic. But that's what happens when people decide to play it safe and shop from home. Retailers are having to shift their business models and create ways for people to get deliveries at home, or have curbside pickup.

Here's another interesting outcome from this. I looked at a couple of houses about 1.5 hours outside of Dallas / Fort Worth (DFW). The agent told me she's getting people from DFW buying houses because their employers are seeing the benefits of letting people work from home as a result of the pandemic.

We have closed the TRS corporate office, grounded our jet, and have all of our forum staff working from home.

I don’t miss that morning commute.

I think the mask mandates are a bunch of BS but I still wear a mask when out in public and can’t Socialism distance or the chances of maintaining Socialism distancing like in a store or restaurant can’t be guaranteed.

I laugh at the people driving in a car all by themselves that are wearing a mask. That isn’t helping a darn thing.

PA now has a mandate that you must wear a mask in your own home if people who do not live with you are in your home. They have also mandated that if you are inside anywhere outside your home, you mist wear a mask even if you can Socialism distance. That crap ain’t happening. They keep ratcheting the mandates up more and more like the proverbial frog in the pot.

It started out as “slow the spread” and now it much more than that.

How do you judge socialism distance? Is that like meters? Range of a 7.62x39? Range of a MiG?Sukhoi/Tupolev. If so which model?

It’s measured i meters. Two of them.

Womp Rats are about two meters too.

If you could leash train one I bet they would keep people away too.

If I am not in my truck/car and not in my house I wear a mask

I am not a sheep that has to follow the no mask flock :)
I do my own thing, which is to wear a mask, deal with it

Many places around me have added to the list, "no shoes, no shirt, no mask, no service", as is their right
