Should my 86 4WD, standard cab, have 2 fuel pumps?

Mechanic said the fuel pump is bad and it's in the tank. I said the pump is on the chassis, sitting under the driver's seat (I have seen it with my own eyes). I told him I would bring it home and fix it.

I went on to McParts website and it shows both an intank pump and an inline pump for my truck. That seems really odd. Should it have 2? Is one pump for 4WD and one for 2WD? If I have 2 pumps on my truck but should only have 1 pump, which one would be better (the one that works, I know, but if I am going to get this truck running and reliable, which one is the correct one to leave on there)?

When I get it home, I plan to pull the bed off and see if there are indeed 2 pumps for sure but I know the pump under the cab is working...

Yes. 2 pumps. The one in the tank gets the gas out and the other boosts the pressure. Not sure why they did that. Because the system can run with just one pump as long as it's the right pump. There are people who replaced the in-tank pump with one that can supply the proper pressure and flow-rate and then delete the frame mounted pump. And there are people who have done the opposite. I think the first way is better. But personally, I'm just running the original 2 pump system.
