I found this turbo that fits my truck for very cheap!! $100.. What else would i need to purchase for it to work properly??? intercooler? cold air intake? Also would I have to mess with the ECU???For it recognize the extra air?
heres the link you might be interested in picking one up let me no wat you think guys. http://picclick.com/T04E-T3-TURBO-TURBOCHARGER-63-400-HPS-160462732969.html

That is a junk Chinese turbo.

If you have to ask, you're in over your head.

I can't recall how many people come onto forums and say they're going to turbo/supercharge their vehicles and never do it. I even offered to paypal one guy $50 if he actually turboed his 2.9. It never happened. This gets old.

your post didnt help answer any of my questions?
When I turbocharged my Dakota, I didn't ask questions. I've spent years reading about forced induction. I then used this magical thing called Google to SEARCH. And then I DID it.

You're asking the same questions that have been asked a thousand times before, it's not up to us to spoon feed you the answers.

Aftermarket cold air intakes suck... the one you have now does its job.

He kinda did answer the one question.

The phrase "that's a junk chineese (fill in the blank)" usually means "DON"T F***ING BUY IT".

Intercooler is not necessary, but would be good.

If you have a speed-density system, you will need to tune the computer (have fun with chipping an EEC IV computer by the way). If you have a MAF, you shouldn't NEED to, but it would e a good idea.

Like 02 said, your stock cold air system is doing it's job and is much better than anything you can go buy without spending over $300 for minimal if any benefit. Like I say to the dog when he gets at the newspaper "Leave it".

Well when i did use "google" this is where it brought me... now im just asking questions.. i might be just another person but i am really considering the turbo. Just looking for some tips from someone that has already done it. So if i was to purchase that turbo even if its only did half the horsepower it advertisies its still good for the price. But would I only need that and just bolt it on and im done or do I need more?

If you really want to ask about turboing your truck, do 2 things.

1) Fill in your engine.

2) Ask the question down in the Forced Induction section. You will get far more helpful answers there.

97 should have a MAF. Speed-density went out of style in the early 90s. It made a short comeback on some early 6.0 diesels, but hasn't been commonly used by Ford since the demise of the 2.9L.

To the best of my knowledge all 4.0s ever were MAF.

Hey, Bro....do not waste your money. Buy a better exhaust system and a bolt on cone filter (AEM is very good). Your motor will run better and sound much better than spending $100 on something that is really junk. We are trying to be helpful here, ok? A nice inexpensive real turbo system will set you back $1,000+. I am looking into a turbo as well later down the road. I know I will not buy a used system unless I know who owned it before and then I would still spend some bucks.

There is no turbo system out there that will increase hp for $100.

I agree with the answers you've had. If you want to do the turbo cheap look into a low pressure STS system...other than that it gets very expensive VERY fast. Whichever route you go, make sure that Chinese POS isn't part of it.

Yeah, don't let Hans run you off. He isn't usually that cranky. Something must be up with him today.
