Should i go for it?

he's BSing yoiu, figure out why the CEL is on. if you have to, test drive it and take it somewhere to have it checked. they are there for a reason and dont just turn on because they want to...

wants a little too much because of milage IMO

Not true, sometimes they do just come on for no reason, on a ranger and some other vehilces hit a certain milage that cel comes on and you have to take it and get it put on a computer to get it shut off. I had a 99 Ford Ranger and this happened to me, the CEL came on and there was nothing wrong with the truck, once I got it taken off at the ford garage it never came back on again, it was because it hit 125K i think it was.

I like it. That's not too much for it. I've had the same engine for I think 6 years and it has always had the CEL on for some reason or another. It's comforting in a way with it's warm orange glow.

Personlly, besides the Check Engine Light, I think 2200 is a good deal.

I am not taking into consideration rust though. I have no clue how much a certain amout of rust devalues a car, we don't have rust here.

but a 4.0L manual 2wd, that would be a fun truck. Looks good with the Mustang Wheels too.
The Check Engine Light makes the price a bit high though becuase you don't know what it is... Could be a bad engine, could be a loose sparkplug wire... I'd try and figure out what the light came on for, and if it is nothing major, I'd go for it!

I think the CEL is commonly the evap solenoid valve. There's not much incentive to replace that so even if it show's up on a test it's not going to be replaced unless there is an E-Check. I think it is my problem because under load my light goes out and when the load is off, it comes back on. The light can't mean a whipped engine. 150,000 on a truck that looks as good as that is nothing. Mines around 180K and I kick the shit out of it and neglect the oil changes.

By the way, forget I said that if I ever post it for sale. it's been used only on Sunday by my Granny and she's been dead since 1971.

That looks like a good deal...the CEL is not usually anything to worry about...it only has to do with emissions...does not indicate anything major...could be EGR or a number of things that cause that...mine was one for six months (not my Ranger) and when I finally took it in to have it checked the guy said just some hoses were crossed (and that was baffling because nobody touched the hoses)...cost me $130 to fix it...

The CEL came on a year later and this time it was the O2 sensor wires were not connecting properly...twisted the sensor and it went out...has been out now for four months...had the E-test done recently and it passed...

Rust is another story...but it looks like it's in good shape...I'd have a look under neath and check the firewall for discoloration (rust)...if the door posts and firewall are in good shape I'd say it would be a good truck...

Have fun...they're great trucks and the 4.0 is supposed to be not too bad on gas...another consideration...if you don't drive too far it probably won't cost you much in gas...

Seems like a good deal, a buddy of mine just picked one up here, almost exactly the same as that, just his is 4 wheel drive and doesn't have the canopy, he payed $4750 for his, and his is a 1993 and needs a windshield, too.

As for the check engine light, get it checked out before you buy, but OBD I is a basic system, I had the check engine light turn on, when I had my 1989, 2 times. Both times the light came on for no reason at all. The first time the code pulled said something like Automatic transmission temperature to high, and I had a manual transmission, the second time was something to do with the A/C system not functioning or something, and my truck didn't have A/C.

some times its the something to do with the EGR valve that is the most common problem i have seen, and its usually the sensor, i replaced mine in my old ranger and i ended up having to replace the sensor cause that was whats bad, and i have seen that on a few rangers

If you have a annual saftey inspection in your area it probably wont pass with the MIL on, Atleast in NY state it wont.

Some 4.0s don't have EGR-mine, for one.

That truck is worth about $1500 to $2000. High mileage will decrease the value. The ranger trucks were OBDII compliant in 1995. While the CEL does NOT come on for "no reason", it can be a minor problem. Usually, a sensor not reading or sending correctly or if a sensor is "out of range" it will set the CEL. If there is no rust, it would be a good purchase. The listing is in Detroit, though. Lots of rust in that area.
