Should I buy it? Have you owned one? What the hell should I do????

The older ones interchange with Honda passports but that one I can't remember. I can tell you engines in comparison to other models of that era are expensive and rare. I used to sell them and the yard I worked at was proud of then because of the demand.

I like them, but everyone i have ever found has needed a motor.
I have probably checked out 30+
that needed motors. So i won't touch them, but i'm sure it's a maintence thing.

Let me get this straight, you have personally looked at OVER ( 30 ) Isuzu Rodeo's and they ALL had bad engines?????

You must REALLY like Isuzu Rodeo's but yet you never found a good one? EVER?

What am I missing here?:dunno:

I had a 94 Rodeo.Did the timing belt around whatever the manual said and replaced the clutch at 165K.That thing was sound as a pound for me,was a great vehicle for ski trips.Got rid of it at 225K to a guy that keeps it at his lake house,he says it still goes wherever he needs it to go.

I worked with a guy that had an older one, he loved it. He got it cheap because the front needed rebuilt (balljoints, TRE's...)

He was enthusiastic to the point of being annoying actually... :icon_thumby:

don't look that bad i'd take a chance on it if it was here..

I had a 2000 Passport that looked almost identical to that. Bought it brand new. In 2000 the Rodeo and Passport were updated up front with crystal headlights and slightly revised styling. The Rodeo also got crystalized taillights (the Passpost did not but I swapped in Rodeo taillights anyway) The Amigo also got the same updates as the Rodeo as well has a name change to Rodeo Sport. All Passport for the most part interchange with it's Rodeo counterpart of the same year/generation.

Gen 1 Rodeo 89-97
Gen 1 Passport 94-97

Gen 2 Rodeo 98-04
Gen 2 Passport 98-02 (replaced by Honda-built Pilot)

I have to say I loved that truck. Actually saw it driving around town recently and was tempted to see if they wanted to sell it, even though it is a little beat up now (I kept it perfect). I like the ones with the wheel mounted on the back a lot better than the ones mounted underneath. Compared to yours I also added Isuzu Axxiom 17" wheels / tires, OEM fog lights (same as Ranger where everything was prewired) tinted the windows and added tube side steps and a rear window deflector

Like I said, I loved that truck but it did have issues. Now I drove 60 miles round trip every day in it so I did put miles on it. When it was 3.5 years old, the tranny started leaking. Went to dealer as soon as I noticed it and thought it was fixed, but then the tranny failed. Dealership replaced under extended warranty. Horn also locked up (embarrassingly on the way home one night a 2am). Dealership had to replace whole center section of steering wheel (including airbag). Also replaced under extended warranty. Finally, around 89k miles, at an oil change, dealership noticed it was consuming oil and there was a slight tick. Issue most likely would not be covered by extended warranty so I traded the car in (on a rainy night where they didnt notice the tick). 3 months later I saw it parked in a local repair lot for over a week. Prob getting major repair work done.

Now, if I did not have an extended warranty, it may have changed my opinion of the truck. Funny, every time I took it to Honda for one of the above noted repairs, they would find a way to tell me it was "not a real Honda". But they were always happy to help me because they saw how nice I kept it (and the extended warranty said they had to, lol).

Also had front wheel bearings done at Firestone for $140 with no issue

I would say if the price is right, go for it and keep an eye on it. Heck, if I am in a situation where I can buy mine back I might.

I found a problem - need advice before i buy

I took another look under the front end and found that the driver side axle does not seem to be in the proper position and I can see grease inside where it should be SEALED the pictures should explain exactly what I am talking about.

I took a picture of the passenger side which looks NORMAL and the driver side which does not look normal but the 4 wheel drive works just fine hi and low.EDIT / THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE IS NOT WORKING!!! I CAN ONLY GET THE REAR WHEELS TO SPIN.

Can somebody please have a look at the two pictures and tell me what is going on and how serious or not it is!!

The second picture shows the problem.

Why does my gut tell me that axle is BROKE and that's why the 4x4 does not work and that's why I hear a clanking sound coming from that location when I go over a decent size bump and I can reach in there and grab the boot and move it up and down.:annoyed:

Looks like the clip or spring (hopefully not the Big nut) came off the CV shaft. See if you can pop it back in w/ no weight on tyre. Check again with thrusts & pulls.
I know of a Pick-up Truck & Rodeo failing to start due to the electric fuel pumps not working. Both were R/R under warranty w/o further problems.
BTW, it looks like a clean truck ! I probably would buy it-

I'm pretty sure you can't just pop the shaft back on,there's a c-clip on the inside that holds it.It's a big job dropping the front end if you can't do it yourself costwise,go to planetisuzoo.com for more info.I have a 92 rodeo with 280,000kms, auto, with 3inch susp lift+3inch bodylift and tow a 18.5ft crestliner boat with it and so far the tranny is holding up[mind you i only have to go a few miles with it to the launch].

how much do they want for it? if the price is right i would buy it

I am taking it down to a certified garage to get an estimate on the cv/axle and then the owners and I are going to discuss price, so far they have given me every indication that they will be willing to work with me and come to a fair price for the rodeo in it's current condition.:icon_thumby:

Sorry,i screwed up,i was looking at the pic backwards thinking the shaft was coming out of the differential side. It's not that big of a job to put a new c-clip on the wheel side.

Where did the c-clip go in the first place?
