I'm low on cash right now, but I ran into an old faculty member from my old HS and her husband in the Pool Hall last nite (small bar with awesome chilli dogs). Apparently they have a '96 4x4 Exploder that their tard of a son rolled while drunk, it's been sitting for about 5 years. The body is pretty tore up, but the meat of it, engine, trans, axles seem to be in good condition. Basicly if I bought this I would be yanking the axles, engine, trans, and whatever parts I may want to keep and recycling the wrecked body to make some cash back.

But I'd have to bug my cousin to store the stuff on his property as I have NO place to keep any of it at my house and with no axles idk how I'd get it to the recyclers.

So, anybody think it's worth a try given my situation?

borrow/get a deckover trailer. logs make good rollers.

a flatbed wrecker with a winch can do the job. When I had my parts truck removed from my house, it had no axles. It made a nice long divot in the dirt when it got dragged up onto the bed, but that's easy to fix.

I knew it could be dragged by the winch, just didn't know if most tow drivers would mind dragging the thing onto the bed. I could have the thing towed to my cousins house for free tho :D on AAA's dime.

How much you think I'd get for it at the junker with the engine, trans, and axles removed?

It's your money. We can only say we like photos. If they are willing to hold it at their house for now maybe you can work a deal withal to hold it till your more sure about spending the money?

Or more financially "secure"

It's got the 4.0 V6. I asked and he was sure about that part.

It would be about a month and a half until I had the spare savings anyways. Just wanted some input. I doubt it will go anywhere because it's already been sitting for 5 years.

would the front axle be useful to you? don't it have the IFS, not TTB

what kind of money are you talking?

compared to buying a 4.0, trans, t/case(would you need that?), and disc brake 8.8(could pick and chose and find one w/ 4.10's LSD)?

ya or you could chop the top pull off the doors and cage it. lift it, put bigger tires and make a crawler

also is it four door?

Thew whole lot for 500, for some reason I thought I mentioned that in the first post. I'm not sure about 2 door or 4 but I'm assuming 4. You don't see very many Explorer Sports around here.

EDIT: damn, '96 had IFS.

It is a slight disappointment, but thats still a good 4.0, ds, an 8.8, and trans. Plus whatever I get for the body at the scrappers. Honestly, I have no immediate use for this stuff but it sounds like a good deal and I love having parts before I need them.
