I was looking at some Ammo on the sportsmans guide, trying to figure out how much money I'll end up spending when I decide to get some bullets for my 9mm when I noticed they had 9mm shot shells. I'm guessing that they are made for a 9mm pistol, since my carbine has a longer barrel do you think it will effect it somehow?

There's not really all that much I can shoot with a 9mm round except maybe coyotes and targets, but these shot shells would be good for taking down squirrels and whatnot as well.

I usally call that snake shot. I use it in my 22 pistol works really good but kinda expensive.

You gotta be really close for the shot shells to be effective. Great for snakes, but I don't know about a squirrel, unless it was climbing up your leg.

Yeah, I noticed the price after I posted. About 1.10 a round.

So distance is bad on these? I'm just looking for something to replace my .410 with since it's up to around 20 dollars for a box of shells now. And my .22 mag rips them in half.

Are whatnots in season?

J/k

I wouldn't go with too light of a gun with the whatnots; they're notorious for charging when wounded. Be careful out there!

whatnots make good bait.

Good point. I should go after the whatnots with my 12 gauge loaded with magnum sabots. Took down the bear pretty good.

Hell, I might even have to ask my brother if I can borrow his 10 gauge, you never know how many rounds those whatnots can take!

Be carefull with running shot shell in a pistol. From what I understand, those bb's could alter the little grooves in the barrel that help keep your regular shells pattern due to the shot shell by making their own groves in the barrel, thus leaving your next regular rounds shot placement everywhere.

Hmm.. interesting.

I think I'll change my mind about these. Maybe I can find a little 22 somewhere cheap.. or under-powered 22mags. I really do miss eating squirrel.

A dollar a round isn't going to be fun either.

Figured I'd throw this in there, this is why I am looking for something for small game other than my magnum. Since it's a tad graphic, I'll link. It's a bit blury as well.

I know it's a Red Squirrel, but it does the same thing to gray squirrels. That was with a CCI Maxi Mag FMJ's.

You should see what that gun does loaded with hollow-points. :fie:

I know what shot shells you are talking about. They are made by CCI. I bought a box for my 9mm Glock and .44mag S&W to try out. Unfortunely, the weather has been bad lately and timing is off. So I never got to try them. And yes, they are expensive! So I'm only going to try them once, unless I found a use for them. As for the damaging barrel affect, it shouldn't since the pellets are lead (or non-iron based, confirmed by magnet) and are of very small size (smaller than BB, like #9 or #12 shot).

Edit:
Have you consider getting a pellet rifle? I use a .177 cal pellet rifle for shooting small game like birds and squirrels. A good setup may cost $100+ easy, but ammo is almost priceless. For like $12, you can get a vary pack or $5 for good old hollow point pellets. And an ammo can usually comes in a pack of 250~500.

Those little shells are not good for snakes--or anything. We have copperheads here. I shot one with a 4.10 from point blank range--#8s I think. I thought it was dead but it crawled off. I came back with a .22 and did it right. A .410 is a powerful thing compared to a 9mm. Whatever you can kill with a pistol shell filled with shot you are better off killing with an aerosol can.
