So i got rough country 2'' lift shocks around Christmas time and put them in my truck after i lifted it....but it struck me and my cousin as odd that there was no zip ties or any means of stopping the shocks from springing. in fact we had to pull the shocks really hard to get them to extend. He said that when he put shocks in his jeep that they were tied up and when he cut the ties they flew straight out. this worries me that the shocks are providing for the lift they say they are.....any thoughts

Shocks don't provide lift, the springs do (or adding a spacer under the spring does).

Nitrogen gas-charged shocks will self-extend. Not all shocks are gas-charged. Those that aren't don't have a restraining strap around them when you pull them out of the box.
The force created by a gas-charged shock is not enough to significantly affect the ride height.

fluid shocks will flow through valves to provide dampening so they wont extend on their own. the pressurized gas pushes out the other ones

Ok cool...thanks and i know they dont provide the lift i worded that wrong i meant accomodate for it. but thanks alot guys
