Ok, so it looks like i will be getting part of a 4" JD lift from someone on here. Doesnt come with shocks or extended brake lines. So i am wondering first if it matters what shocks i run with this setup? It should be a good ride and everything if i just bought the skyjacker 4" lift shocks right? I'm just wondering this on the odd chance that these lifts are made specifically for the certain parts it comes with. Not that it wouldnt fit if they were, but i just dont want a bad ride :P

Another is which of the shocks i should get? If skyjacker will work like it should, which of the shocks are better for a DD with the odd time wheeling?

Thanks :D

Any shock from Superlift, Skyjacker, Tuff Country, ProComp, Rough Country, James Duff or BDS will ride about the same if they say "hydro". This goes for the nitro versions too....they are all basically the same shock with a different brand name on them. 9 times out of 10 a "nitro" or "gas charged" shock will ride much better and have better handling characteristics than a "hydro" shock.

So that being said, pick a set of shocks that works for your lift. In this case 4" (I thought James Duff only made 3.5" and 5" kits?).

Now if you have the money, I'd suggest Bilstein shocks, they are much better than the "white generic" shock you get from any of the previously mentioned brands.

If your sold on a cheaper shock, the "nitro" or "gas charged" shocks from any of those same brands will work and ride good for what you need them to do. Just don't expect to be able to pre-runner your truck @ 80mph and hold your drink without spilling.

This may be of some use to you: http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/Summer2009/shock_dimensions.htm

To answer your original question directly, yes Skyjacker shocks for a 4" lift will work just perfect for you, and the price is hard to beat (even with the slightly more expensive gas charged shocks, those are the ones I'd recommend).

OK thanks. So would the gas ones be better for DDing? This is my DD and the odd-time offroad trip kinda truck. Basically it will be my winter beast :P Are the gas ones goign to be better for all around driving or just for the hardcore trail rigs?
