Has anyone heard of Shimming a Valve on a 2000 3.0?
I got this truck for next to nothing, the Previous Owner said they had to "Shim the Valve" about once a year. They were sick of it and wanted to get rid of it. The way the inside of the cab looked, I don't think they took care of it. It was trashed.
From what I can tell, it must have been on the #2 cylinder. #2 has lower compression 120# that the ones next to it 150#. the plug is wet, smells like gas and when pulling off the wire for #2 from the coil pack, it does not slow/stumble like it does with the other wires removed, but has good spark. I can hear the engine missing, but very slight. No real valve noise.
I am not much of a mechanic, this is a learning process for me. I have a feeling it has something to do with the exhaust valve or timing? May need a valve job?
I would like to do the repair myself for both learning and cost, I have to have the tranny worked/replaced. This is not my main vehicle.
Any thoughts?
