back story
got the truck from a friend that wrecked the truck (hit semi truck) he still drove it around and when the front seal went out he parked the truck and it sat for 3 years in a field..thats where i recived the truck towed it home and removed the trans and replaced the front seal in the trans and replaced all the smashed in panels..
when i started the truck it sounds like the front pump is cavitating whurling noise also changes with idling wouldnt shift only at hight rpms and reved to much so out with the trans and checked the pump looked ok no scratches and looked like gears meshed. so i reinstalled the trans back in and parked it for a year (got busy with work)
1 year later went to the "local" pick a part (3 hrs away) found a truck that looked like it was rebuilt and the front of the truck was totaled removed the trans and torque converter.. got it back home and installed it in the truck
started it up and it had the same cavitating whurling noise same with the shifting high rpms now it wont shift in 2nd gear till you manual shift in 2nd and back to drive then will shift in the gears but when you put in neutral when driving it will stay in neutral until you shift to 2nd and back to drive

thanks for any help

How many times is the torque converter clicking in when you install it into the trans? It needs to seat 3 separate times before its ready to install into the truck.

in some cases i have seen the pump gears would shatter due to no fluid but engind is still running.

next time the trans is out remove the bell housing and pull the pump apart, look for heavy breakage or scooring on the seperator plate.

also you will know when the TC is fully installed, the TC outer ridges will rub/hit the bell housing when spinning it.
