I posted this in the transmission section but this may be a better area:
I just picked up an 88 BII to play around in. I want to make it a little more civilized and the carpet is in a desperate need of cleaning. What is the trick for removing the shifter handle? I need to take the bezel off to remove the carpet to clean it really good.
It has the automatic OD trans with the black floor mounted bezel.

4 screws and it should just pull off the floor.

I'm looking at an original 88 Ford repair manual right now and that T handle snaps on not a fastener in it.Seems to me I got mine off by taking out the bottom bolt under the cover on the end of the rod. There's a little spring to take off and then remove the plastic piece around the slot and it wiggles out PITA but it comes out.

It's the transmission shifter, the transfer case is electronic. So take the trim bezel off and then some bolts near the bottom of the handle?
