shifter swap

i have a 1986 ford ranger and it has the old bent shifter in it going into the fm145 tranny..... i was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to get a shifter out of a 90s or newer ranger to work with this tranny.... i have a shifter from a 2000's model ford ranger edge but the bottom where it goes into the tranny is different from the one that is currently in my truck....and i was wondering if there is any way of getting this to work

hate to be the bearer of bad news but to my knowledge the only way to upgrade to a newer shifter is to upgrade ur tranny to a m5od

You want the later shifter you'll need to swap in the later transmission too...
