shifter / steering column question

I do not like the shifter in the floor with an automatic. Except in muscle cars. Since I have the complete donor car, can I swap the steering column with column shift into my 87 Ranger? Donor is an 85 Mercury Marquis (Crown Vic). If this is possible, and since I have everything, can I also use the cruise control? My Ranger is an S model, no options. Would be sweet to have cruise.
