shifter problems

i have a 05 4.0 4x4 5 spd and sometimes when you shift gears you have to push hard on the shifter to get it between gears and sometimes it is real smooth. it almost feels like i push it over bumps that keep it in place or something. i was wondering if there is a secret to keeping it smooth always. any help is appreciated. thanks.

have you tried bleeding the clutch yet?

Either the clutch isn't disengaging all the way or you've got a lot of play in your shifter. I've got a high mileage Ranger that's on it's third clutch... I'm getting ready to cure the sloppy shifter: http://www.therangerstation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31319
