shifter motor trouble

For some reason the shifter motor will not come out of 4wdL. When I press the button to turn off the 4wd I hear the button click but i dont hear the relay or anything else and the electic motor stays in 4wd. I took the motor off the t-case and was able to spin the knob on the t-case to 2wd but i cant move the motor to 2wd.

How can i tell if the motor is bad or if its not getting any power to it? and what is the best way to fix it?

Just serviced my shift motor today. Whilst you had the shift motor off did you open it up to check the inside? There is a small plastic stop that usually breaks. Easy to replace. Clean the contacts and such whilst you have it off. You can check the motor by applying 12v to thick orange wire and the thick yellow wire (the only two wire running into the base of the motor) When I first applied 12v nothing happened. Then when I opened up the gearing end with the contacts (the end with all the others wires going into it) I removed the gearing (with the broken stop) and tried to jump the motor again - perfect!
I replaced the plastic around the stop with a piece of homemade tubing - put it all back together and it worked.
I did read on one thread to disconnect the battery whilst you do all this - something to do with rewriting the computers memory.
