anyone ever notice the supercab 5 speed shifter/arm rest/centercounsel is a terrible freakin design??

if i have a pop can in eitehr of my cup holders it gets bashed by 2nd, 4th, and reverse gears....

i took the center counsel out once to try and move it back a inch or two but i couldnt do that because the bracket is all one piece.....i was thinking about maybe heating the shifter and bending it out of the way......

anyone do anythign to fix this problem before?? pics??

I've seen a cupholder in an RBV for the 1/2 console that had them side-side vs. front-back......would be worth checkin for in the junkyard. I miss the floor cupholders that held the HUGE slurpy cups, and ya mine does the same thing.... cans go up front, bottles have to go out back.

the side by side inserts don't work well with manual trannies, the inline insert works best, can in front whatever you want in the next one. There's actually a third insert with just one cup holder, that one works ok, but a big cup will still run into the shifter. The nice thing about the cup holder is it's a removable piece, the side by side and single cup holders have two screws holding them in, the inline just clips into place, grab it in the front and pull up it'll pop out.

cruise the junkyard, you'll find one... I think I got both of my inserts (have that console in my ranger and explorer) from second gen explorers, I think it's a '95 part number.

I have the one-cup center console in my Navajo and it's fine for smaller things. Only gear that is a problem is 4th and that is with a taller cup. I just skip 4th when I eat fast food.
