shifter cable.

I have an 01 ranger 4.0/auto. I was needing to know how to ajust the shifter cable? When you go to put it in park it sometimes does not want to go in. And than sometimes it dont want to start in park act's like a dead battery. If any one can tell me how to ajust this I would relly like the help. Thank you God bless.
