swapping cabs & ran into a problem with the shift linkage. Pulled up the carpet, shifter is unbolted, retaining nut on the shift linkage is loose to where the linkage will slide fore & aft, but ...
There seem to be two little flat spots on the end of the linkage that have been "peened" by the factory preventing it from sliding thru the shift adjuster completely.
Anyone else encountered this ? My thought is to simply grind them off, pull the linkage thru and remove the entire shifter from the truck. Am I missing something ? What's the procedure for removing the linkage from the shifter ? It's an 87 ranger with 4 speed auto.
