Shift Cable Replacement 1995 4.0 4wd Automatic Transmission

Just in case, the end of the cable is on the firewall. A long, large flat blade screwdriver or similar tool will work. No secret handshake is required. It just pops off. Some lubricant on the cable socket, like anit-sieze, will help to pop it back on. There is also a bracket down lower just out of reach from the top and underneath. It only goes in one way. Good luck with that. :p

Was able to get the whole thing out finally. As you said, easier to figure out once you've done it. I bought a Pioneer cable for the 97 Ranger and compared it to mine and they are identical. Got it installed and it shifts! Though it isn't sitting as tight in that metal bracket on the transmission... Unfortunately I somehow burned out one of the wires to my brake light switch while pulling the old one out, so now my brake lights are out and can't shift out of park with the electricity on....

One problem at a time I guess. Thanks for all the help rumblecloud!
