I have already started this project before I found this site, but I can post my progress from here.
It all started with me wanting more horsepower from my aging 2.3 liter ranger 4+4. My buddy I work with told me that he put a turbocharged engine from a ford thundercoup in a ranger once. I found 2 doner cars (mercury merkur xr4ti's) I spent 2 weekends stripping the cars and one weekend with the actual swap. My plans are to install an intercooler and a pcm out of a 88 ford thundercoup, and a large vam air meter.
So far I have a 2.3 turbocharged motor from a xr4ti installed and am running a PK1 comp from a automatic car. The LA3 comp I have will work with the large VAM and can compensate for the intercooler and works with the 35 pound injectors.
I have run into a glitch, The turbo I have will only produce 8 pounds of boost. I purchased another turbo off E-Bay and it had excessive shaft play, so it needs to be rebuilt.
So as I stand I have a turbo motor that has substantially improved my horsepower. I can actually use 5th gear now. But I know I can get more horsepower. I have the parts to move on, but I need a turbo that will produce at least 15 psi of boost.
So my post will be showing my progress from now. I will be installing an intercooler and large VAM, will have to change my intake to have a air charge sensor, (will use the Ranger Intake). Will have to wire in the air charge sensor, The XR4TI wire harnes did not have that connector.
Here are my first picts and I will post more as I progress on this project.

It looks like I have 2 IMG listings in my text, will post this as is to see if it will actually have two picts posted. will post again with the rest as soon as I see how the post comes out.Sorry I am new and just trying to get it right.

Only see 1 pict. Will try again.

Turbo engine installed. Wire harness adapted. Running great, but sometimes has a fast idle.

Had to cut out some of the heater box for room for the oxegen sensor.

Here are some more picts.

these are the harness connectors from the engine harness to the chassis harness. The XR4TI harness has a different connector so you have to repin the connectors from your Ranger wire harness. This took me quite a bit of time. I took all the tape off the Ranger harness and traced were the connector wires went. I used the pcm pinout diagram for Ranger to help me figure it out. So far all my guages still work but my temp guage. Am working on that, think I missed the sensor ground.

Added an extra wire to ecm that will go to the the air charge temp sender.

No intercooler yet, but lots of room.

This is a Intercooler for a XR4TI. Plenty of room for this.

This is my spair harness, It was a great starting platform for wiring in the new engine harness. Needed pcm pinout for ranger and merker, guages had to be wired in to the chassi harness.
