I just got to the point where I wanted to fix the dragging brakes and very scary rear end hopping pretty much all the time.
You can't see or feel the aggravation but there was plenty of that! Overthe past month up to yesterday 9/9/15
All new parking brake cables installed mostly by me. (my bro in law cheers me on) Sigh.
Shop I trust went to work on the beast and:
Rear brake shoes had 2 primary shoes on the passenger side. (paid the former owner to do this right LOL )
replaced rear brake cylinders, ( broken bleeders,) air in the lines
All new shoes, hardware and springs on the 10" rear brakes
.
Finally after 3 sets of drums they turned the last set and got them right.
(they must of been going out of round from the heat when they were dragging. )
turned front rotors, (driver's side had bad wobble in it.)
Front drivers side wheel bearings were disintegrating, (replaced and repacked, and repacked the other)
pulled the RABS valve and joined the brake line with a union.
new front pads and all the anti-seize compound was used in the the right places.
Power bled all the lines and cylinders. (they have a "I gotta have one of them! machines for bleeding brakes)
Road test... no more rolling egg sensation, no more back end hop and feeling of gyration in the drive line.
We could have done this but sometimes it's worth it to pay. (thank gawd for credit cards)
The beast still has some issues and is a long term restoration project. But at least now the rolling stock is ok and I can drive more then local. I've been around a long time never dreamed I'd see the day that drum brakes could be such a problem.. Thing is almost all this was caused by the POS RABS.
The beast stops on a dime now!
