Has anyone here make rear shackle brackets before.

My rear drivers side shackle finally fell through and I don't want to spend the $80.00 PER SIDE for factory shackles at the dealership I worked at for two days doing inventory work.

I just need some patterns and some thicknesses.

I'm hoping to build it into a prerunner someday so I need to look at somthing I can raise the rear with.

I have an FX4 4:10 posi axle that it needs to hold up to.

Copy your old shackles. I made my own extended shackles that way, I used some 1/2" flat bar with some solid round stock in the center.

Sadly, There is nothing left to copy.....both are rotted beyond recognition

At least the frame is good.....

Junkyard might have ones you could use, or maybe good enough shape to copy.
Buy shackles at the dealer, copy, and return.

FWIW, the shackles and rear hangers are the same on Rangers and '86-'96 F150's. i don't remember if the front hanger is the same or not. If it is, the Ranger front hanger changed in 1998.

Oh, and napaonline searches time-out, so that link is gone. But you should be able to find it again.

I have. Made them both out of 1/8" plate and careful copying.

I'm sure that this can be done in an easier way and with 1/4" material, but this is what I had on hand and this is what I came up with.

Beautiful welds!!!!!

Is that stick of mig... Looks stick to me.
I love the use of triangles. they only make things stronger!

They look heavy duty

1/8th inch can only make it stronger

very nice welds, but i say it looks like mig based on the color of the bead from the gas shield just my 2 cents

not to contradict you, they are beautiful and you have a great truth about the triangles

They are MIG welds from a Hobart 140. 1/8" thick is what the factory brackets are supposed to be. I would like to make a bunch if these at some point, since it's one of the few things I can make solely at home without the use if tools at work.
