Sgt Ex

Got the frontend back together (finally) and started tearing the rear end apart.

I did get it fully broken down, and I started cleaning things up.

All the dirt, grime, and old paint cleaned off.

Painted it with duplicolor Cast metal engine paint. Little too shiny, but it'll do.

Also installed my RuffStuff pinion yoke guard.

I do have a question for you gurus...

Do those splines look twisted to you guys?

1st pic they dont look twisted the second one they do

1st pic is driver side, 2nd pic is passenger

They both look twisted to me, you need new axles.

They're Alloy USA, so they have a 10 yr warranty. I'm going to try and get factory/ten to warranty them. If I can't, I'll just rock them.

I think all axles will twist. Can't remember if it's on here or pirate that a guy talks about an old pulling truck trick of putting lines down the shaft to measure how much they've twisted, and replacing them once they've twisted 360 down the whole length of the shaft.

picked up a pair of leafs from the jy out of a 99 v8 exploder. They look to be in really good shape, and they are not wrapping backwards like the current ones, so i will install those. Still haven't heard back from Ultra Axle yet in regards to the axle shafts.

I'm also thinking of removing the rear links and adding this traction bar setup.

Antiwrap/Traction Bar Complete Kit - RuffStuff Specialties

Thoughts?

Looks good. I'd probally try to replace those axles if possible but I have ran worse in a pinch

Anything else you scored from the yard?

a set of hood hinges for D and an ashtray to practice some fiberglass work.

I was going to get a hood, but they are 50 bucks a pop, and I didn't want to spend that for a hood. They have a set of CHERRY tan leather seats that I am going back to snag. Didn't have my Torx set with me, so I couldn't get them today.

Anyone's input on the change from parallel 4 link with leafs to a traction bar setup with leafs?

Id just do a traction bar simple cheaper and still works. But id do a slip and twist version not a shackle setup

The truck currently has an equal length parallel 4 link. The heim joints are getting worn and 2 of the links are bent

So the leaves arnt getting wrecked from wrapping? Just going negative?

If so maybe just replace the worn parts and build new stronger lower links (im assuming these are the bent ones) the truck seems to work pretty flawlessly as is so i wouldn't change a ton
