Ha lol.
Lack of airflow was my biggest issue. Long slow hill climbs in 4 low boiled my coolant.
Taurus fan should take cars of that. High side for when needed and low side on a thermo switch.

Your mech. fan wasn't working right then. It should be able to cool the engine just fine. Mine does with the ac and all the lights on while pushing 37's.

Just an FYI..I ordered one of these for my new motor that I am putting together...

I ordered it in late July...Summit has sent me a post card every week that informs me that the expected ship date has been moved out another week. As of now the expected ship date is 9-28.

Im in no rush, so Ill keep waiting, but I imagine they dont have any cores to reman or at least not a big enough batch to make a run.

I assume they will be discontinued like the "Extra Duty" power steering pumps because everyone buys the Severe Duty and sends them their standard duty as a core.

Yeah, I'm not worried about it... Think I'm gonna just do the e-fan (I already have it, just need to install it) and go from there. I doubt I need a "severe duty" water pump...

Yes, to the E-fan, Bro. If the water pump is fine, leave it alone. Better cooling comes with an E-fan.

Puller. A pusher covers some of the surface it is trying to cool.

Your coolant flow is regulated by the THEMOSTAT, not the pump.

For better cooling I would think an oversized radiator/cooling fan, high flow "racing" thermostat would be more, much more effective than a water pump.....

The point of a high flow pump is to get the coolant to exit the block, the heat source, quicker - especially when you are not on the freeway and close to an idle. I can't say it would help in Ben's case, but I can tell you that it is a large improvement over a normal parts house pump. For what he is doing, wheeling, the Taurus fan will provide the most relief. And as Plum said, the HD pumps are simply manufactured with better parts. For me, it was a no brainer.

Im just rocking the 180 degree high flow tstat right now and it's fine.
E-fan and OEM tstat is my plan. I want it running at operating temp and not below.

Pretty sure when a water pump option is termed "severe duty" it means higher flow/better designed impeller.

I would be very surprised if the bearings/seals are even different, since seals only go bad if you don't change your coolant every 4 years(green) or high mileage. I'm talking OEM. Once the seals go, then bearings go.

After nearly 2 months of waiting.. Summit sent a post card saying they cannot get the pump and refunded my money. I may try again in few weeks, but I doubt they have any cores to reman.

You could try what the hotrodders use to do back in the day take a large flat washer the diameter of your t-stat and pop it in drive it around, if it's getting hot at Idle or climbing hills, file the inside out a little.
Repeat process till its just right.
It might take a bit longer to get to temp but it will run a lot cooler with the e fan and a constant pull of coolant thru the engine..

Its a bunch of bull both pumps have the same housing, same passage sizes and 8 bladed impellers, , If you go back and look at summits web page for that item it says its a rebuilt unit I.E stock casting with there bearings and parts and I bet if you look down in at the impeller blades they dont have as much area as the old blades, thats what the end cap does it helps contain the water around the impeller, some also sale the so called heavy duty pump, witch are really for cars and trucks with a/c witch moves the water thru slower so it absorbs more heat, witch is bleed of by a larger radiator, if freezing weather isnt a problem then straight water with a anti rust and lube additive will run cooler than anti freeze, true severve duty has an extra nose bearing,
