Anybody out there know the location of the serial numbers on the frames of Rangers. I need to locate mine before having the truck inspected by my State Patrol...

Thanks, any help appreciated.

Yeah, why do they care about the frame's serial number. I didn't even know the frame had the serial number stamped in it to be honest.

Why isn't the VIN good enough?

two titles and vins, for one truck

Long story short, we have two titles for this truck and both have different numbers on them. Looks like the previous owner(s) swapped the body of a 4x2 with the frame of a 4x4. need to get this fixed before they will let us transfer title.....:icon_confused:

If I remember right your truck's VIN is stamped in 3 places, the body by the windshield, on the frame....and I think the 3rd is on the engine. Not positive about that. It's another one of those "anti theft devices" that causes more hassle than it's worth. I'll take a peek under my truck if I have time after work and see if I can find where they put it.

Edit: I found this list after a little googling.

Here's How to Find Your Car's VIN

The table below will help you locate your car's unique DNA - its unique vehicle identification number. VINs are normally located in several locations on a car, but the most common places are:

- On the door frame/door post of the front doors (usually driver's but sometimes passenger's)
- On the dash near the windshield
- On the engine itself (machined pad on front of engine)
- On the car's firewall
- In the left-hand inner wheel arch
- On the steering wheel/steering column
- On the radiator support bracket
- On your car's title, registration, guarantee/maintenance book or on the declarations page of your auto insurance policy

What a retard. Why in the world would you generate/assign a second title just because you swapped a frame?

In most places its the VIN on the body that counts.
