Oil or coolant?

Oil would be open so N/C or very high ohms, it needs 6psi pressure to close and it would then show 0 ohms

Coolant should be over 35ohms cold, about 16ohms at 190deg, under 10ohms is HOT

These are senders NOT sensors

1989 and up Rangers use fuel senders with:
16 ohms - Empty
160 ohms - Full

Yes, you can add a 16ohm resistor to those to get an accurate EMPTY on the Ranger gauge, Full is not that big of a deal, it would show as 3/4(106ohms) or so on the Ranger gauge

Yes, that would be fine
The sender on either has a GROUND wire to the frame/body, and then a "signal" wire that goes to the gauge
Rangers use a yellow/white stripe wire as signal wire in most years

So the 0/90ohm sender will have 2 connections, unless labeled differently, it doesn't matter which one of the connections is GROUNDED to vehicle, but one MUST BE grounded to a good ground point
The other connection is now "the signal" connection

One end of the 16 ohm resistor would be attached to the Rangers yellow wire, the other end of that resistor would attach to the wire that goes to the 0-90ohm senders signal connection

Ranger dash/fuel gauge--------(yellow/white wire)------------------16ohm resistor----------0/90ohm sender

You don't have to do this, won't "hurt" anything to run direct, gauge would just show Empty with about 3 gallons left, and show Full at just above 1/2 on gauge

I would use a 2watt to 5watt 16 ohm resistor if you decide to do this, about $2-$4

i got a custom fuel sender built for my fuel cell from isspro. theyll make it to whatever depth and ohm range you want and its not much more expensive than an off the shelf sender. if i remember correctly i paid 90 bucks. this was 4 years ago and it still works great!
