Let me know guys and thanks for your time!

Because I bought this ranger last week and it failed ca smog because idle was at 1200 and spec was 800... it passed on everything but the high idle and the high idle failed the emissions... secondly it likes to sputter anytime I give it gas...
I bought the kit and carb dip and thought id give it a go? Is this a bad idea?

Looks good from what I can tell. Once you get it apart you will get a better idea of what your working with. It's a pretty simple procedure. Me and my brother did a buddies in an hour and a half. Off the truck rebuilt back on. Yeah we should have let it all soak overnight to get her good and clean but it's a daily driver that was needed in the morning and this was the only chance we had to do it.

Gotcha this is my mess around truck so it can sit overnight plus i got alot to do in the interior today/tomorrow soooooo yea...

i noticed that on the 1st picture theres a gold cup type thing towards the center left of the pic... There is supposed to be a screw behing there huh? becuase nothing is there...

NOTE: THese pics were taken when the cars off... so if anything looks odd lemme know becuase my cars idle is stuck at REALLY HIGH sometimes and thats why im rebuilding it..

i dont know to be honest i just have the paperwork and there was notes next to fail saying idle 1220 spec is 800?
And nope i havent i just got it last week..
Plus i dont know how becuase my chiltons is in the mail?

All i know is when i was driving it it sputters aanytime you put a little gas... and it runs at really high idle.... ill come to a stop and it sounds like im still in 3rd gear rpms...

It looks so clean, check that you don't have a vacuum line broken somewhere.

1200 ppm CO, maybe means running rich. Yes make sure you don't have a vacuum leak, and all the aforementioned items.

My first ranger had one of those liittle thing on it too. Don't know much about carbs then still don't, but if you never rebuilt one, might be a better idea too just buy one I took mine apart and said holy crap thats alot of parts. Makes A nice puzzle but I just bought a new one there under 50 bucks too. Only problem i had to but new fuel lines and they didn't come pre-bent other than that ran much better after.

Well shoot if I can return it I will it was like 70 bucks...
What are some good signs to a rebuild?

And can someone help me out then
I cleaned the pcv and will replace all vac lines if I have to...
but as far as idle screws where are they and how much do I turn em....

I'm clueless thus being here...

What causes a stuck idle... look at the pics....
I think I'm missing a screw on the gold diaphram on the passenger side I felt back ther and didn't feel the screw wasn't there... would this cause stuck idle

The gold diaphram thingy on the passenger side is the choke pulloff. It opens the choke butterfly slightly on initial start and has no effect on anything unless the choke is completely closed by the choke temperature control (the round black thing on the passenger side). The hot idle is set by the idle motor on the front drivers side. It's controlled by the computer but has to adjusted initially by hand. With the motor running at idle the arm should be resting on the plundger of the idle motor. If it's not, check the fast idle cam (middle on passenger side) it may have stuck or someone might have asjusted the screw too much which will not allow the butterfly to return to its proper idle position.

Gold diaphragm most likely will not have a screw, Autolite(Motorcraft) carbs are easy as pie to rebuild. Friend and I did one overnight , got it running great and all we did was follow directions, we were clueless BUT we knew that.

Follow the instructions, rebuild it. Put it back on hook everything back up checking for vacuum leaks and everything hooked back up see what happens.
