Securilock system activated, how to reset

I came home today and the securilock system got activated somehow while my 2006 Ranger was in the garage. The red light on the dash is on and the truck is as dead as a doornail. Anybody have any idea how to reset it. The owners manual only says take it to a dealer, but it won't run. Thanks for any help

Mike

Let it sit for 30 minutes and try again. If it still won't start it sounds like you have a PATS problem and you may need to get it towed.

If you have another key try using that.

Thanks

It has been sitting all day so I don't think that is going to fix it.
I will leave it alone overnight and hope it somehow resets itself

Did anything happen right before this?

I think I left my keys in the ignition overnight.
Its one of those things I didn't pay that much attention to, I was looking for them this morning, found them there and pulled them out. I may have reached through an open window. Then took another car, came back home many hours later and found the truck disabled.

The other care is an 07 Mustang, so don't know if having that key near the ranger would have done anything.

You have a key fob? (remote key less entry)

Lock the truck and unlock it using the fob, then try to start it.

If not, you are probably looking at getting it towed to the dealer.

If you left your key in, maybe you left it on "On" and drained the battery?

If not, most securilocks can be reset with a simple on and off procedure:
20 minutes on, 20 off, etc. Talk to a dealer to get the right times.

Sorry, but only the dealer can access/retrieve/reprogram the PATS system using their scan tools.

Didnt i say "Talk to the dealer"?

Sorry for coming across confusingly. I only know that my sisters securilock was fixed with a simple 20 minutes on, off, on, off - of course as instructed by the dealer.

Yeah, try jump starting it.

It rare cases, and I emphasize RARE here, I have seen killing/removing the battery wipe the PATS key programming from the computer's memory. It isn't supposed to happen, but then a PATS failure isn't supposed to shut down a running engine, it still happens from time to time. If that happened then you will need to get it towed in and have the keys programmed.

Charge it up, take your truck key off the ring, and try starting it like that. If that still does nothing wait 10 minutes and try jumping it. Some times other PATS keys or large metal objects (IE lots of other keys) on the ring can interfere with the signal and cause this.

It's because of this bullshit, that I will not buy a new truck.

There you go, the harsh truth of the matter. I rather KNOW how to unlock the doors with the antenna whip than deal with a proprietary system that has to be towed to a dealer.

Don't blame you. I might make my living on it, but I still don't like it.

Some of the better locksmiths have the equipment to reset PATS keys BUT they will probably cost more than the dealer.

Thanks for the advice
I did disconnect the battery for about 5 minutes that didn't do any good.
The key fobs don't do anything either.
I just hooked up the battery charger just incase it is dead.
I will let you all know in the morning if it made any difference

Well this morning I went out and all was back to normal.
Maybe it was a dead battery.
Or maybe it reset after 24 hours.
But it is working, thanks everyone for your help.
