My drivers side seat is worn out and needs to be replaced. I have 60/40 seats out of my other truck, but I recently came upon some VW GTi bucket seats and would prefer to use those. I know its a far cry from a bolt in job as far as the tracks go, they're just really nice seats.

My problem is the two wire connector that attaches to the stock seats. When I disconnect it the airbag light on the dash goes crazy. Is there any way to bypass the sensor and what does it do?

its the seatbelt tensioner. in an accident it snaps the belt tight to remove play and keep you in the seat. if you want to end up dead in a roll over, remove that sensor. its also what connects to the buckle, that you HAVE to re use anyways. so either way, your keeping that sensor.

swap your buckle over to the new seat and your good.

BTW, VW is evil.
