1994 Ranger 4x4 with the 4.0L push rod engine. I was working in the engine bay and accidentally bent (and cracked) the oil level indicator tube. The tube was rusted

I can’t seem to find any info on where to buy a replacement and the steps to replace it. The best I could find was a (possible) part number of FOTZ-6754-A. Any thoughts?
 
I think we have had several threads on here about this, and I don't remember them ending well. They make universal dipstick assemblies, but would it fit the threads on the pan? I don't know.

Where did it break at? Do you have several inches of tube on the bottom half, and several inches on the top? If you did and measured the tube OD, you could see if it was a standard 3/8 or 1/2 tube, they sell that tubing in the store. If you had enough of it top and bottom that was not rusted, you could use brass compression fittings to splice a new piece in.

Just get it close in length, you can calibrate during your next oil change. You just fill the engine one quart shy of oil with a filter change and run it. Let it settle for 30 minutes and then check the oil on the dipstick. You can take a hacksaw and make a mark on it, that is your "add" mark. Then add the last quart, run it, let it settle and then make another mark, that is your "full" mark.

I do have plenty of tubing at top and bottom. What about sanding down the rust on the tube and using JB weld? Is that not advisable? The negative would be getting rust particles in the oil but I could just change the oil and flush a few quarts through to be safe. Another negative would be that the repair site is literally right at the exhaust manifolds so it may get too hot for JB weld

I would go to a junkyard and grab one. I doubt something like that is available new anywhere. People here are always listing vehicles they're parting out-- probably could get one from there. Or post in the "Parts Wanted" section.
