How do you do a search for a string of words?:icon_confused:

For instance, how do I search for "water pump" without getting every thread with "pump" and/or "water" in it? I can't figure it out.

Thanks, Ed

Quotation marks maybe? Just guessing.

I've always had trouble this site also. Some require a + in front of each to string them together. I just know someone is going to say "Do a search", just that kind of people here, have too much fun.

you answered your own question... "water pump" only pulls up these two words used together. same with the internet in general..

Well of course we're going to tell you to "do a search"...it's what's required and it's in the book ;) :thefinger:
I find that using the "google custom search" button at the top right of every page gives me better results.

Oh man, I wanted to say the "search noob" thing, but now it's ruined....

The Google search as alwaysfloored has said seems much better. Normally typing +water +pump should search for both water and pump, "water pump" would search for the specific phrase water pump, and +water -pump would search for water and omit results containing pump. The in forum search seems to bring up the same results no matter what, but the google custom search obeys these rules, as well as google in general.

Edit: Tried +Water -pump and got different results, which was the only thing modifier that seems to have changed the results.
