is it me or is it more annoying that everyone jumps all over new people for posting a question that has been asked before? you're going to scare away people that aare trying to learn something, and although it may have been asked 15000 times before, they obviously didn't see the search function, or got it confused with the google search button on trs. if someone asks a familiar question in their thread topic, how bout just ignoring it until they search themselves? sometimes people want to ask a question that has been answered two years ago, but want to see if something has been updated our outdated? maybe they're wondering if anyone has pictures they didnt post of something they plan on doing (such as rhinolining the bottom of their truck). its not that hard to just skip over a repeat thread, and sometimes search doesn't turn up exactly what you're looking for, or you have to search through 50pages of posts to find it. perhaps a "search button" sticky would be more appropriate than jumping on someone the instant they join?

p.s., does anyone know how to get more horsepower from a 3.0L??? jk!

This has been brought up several times in the past few days. Please use the search function.

Serious though, in my early stages of TRS I put stuff in the wrong spot, posted stupid questions, etc. Hell, I still do once in a while. If I hadn't been given some direction, I'd still be doing it. If they can't handle it, they shouldn't be on the interwebz.

you got me all wrong... I was suggesting we shoot them... nobody double posts on our forum!

I've seen people spend way more time writing a post telling someone to search than the 1 minute it would take to actually answer the question... This isn't pirate people, people are just wanting answers to simple questions not an attitude, if it takes 60 seconds to answer the question and 45 seconds to say search, just answer the friggin question or don't say anything (listen to thumper...)

I've been answering stupid phone calls all week at work (gone through almost a fifth of Segrams this week from my after work drinks too though) as our normal service guy took a week off (I need to do that oh so bad, I'm a day and a half backwards on vacation this year so far not counting staying late every night), you'd be amazed at some of the questions people ask that have been mechanics all their lives... but I've also learned a hell of a lot from helping people with their issues.

anyway, I'm a couple drinks in, but would rather answer a stupid question 1000 times than say search, I'll either just move on to the next post or give a short answer then a direction to search in at least... My turbo swap is different than most people on here and I'll still explain stupid little things that I did to people that ask...

LOL...I do agree that some posts are longer than the answer...my perspective is that if they were genius enough to know an answer they wouldn't be here as members...so I try to be gentle with them and direct them or answer if I can...

The only dumb place for questions is the introductions...and even that is OK if it's "Hi, I'm new here and want to do .... where do I find info on...." which is what most of the ones I find are about...

I think it boils down to (is that politically correct or does it refer to some can nibble tribe that may be offended by the saying???) tolerance and willingness to help...and post count...oh, you can bump your post count so much just by offering to help someone...even if you don't know the answers...:)

I can see it both ways. A lot of times it seems people go out and look for threads just so they can tell someone to search and its usually in a rather rude way. On the other hand it does get really old seeing the same question over and over. Especially when its something that has been asked just a few threads down. Its can be enough to bang your head into a wall. I dont mind seeing someone new told about the search function because lets be honest, it can be needed. I really dont like it though when people verbally thrash someone new for forgetting to search. If youre the kind of person who thinks they absolutely have to tell someone to use the search function, the least you could do is not be a dick about it and be polite. We arent trying to scare people away here.

most of the time there arent two identical builds so theres always gonna be questions that seem stupid but are necessary, and if you answer them youre probly saving someone a lot of headache.... besides, forums are for sharing knowledge, not what a lot of people seem to do which is condescend and brag about their truck

i always try to point someone in the right direction as well as telling them to search. if im gonna take the time to tell them to search, i might as well try to help with what i can while im there.

So far, this is a "GOOD" thread... can we keep it that way ppl, please ?

I am all for helping the new guys who show up here. When I get on everyday I search the posts that I have replied to first. Then I hit the "New Post" button to see what has popped up since my last visit. It is frustrating to see a thread that was started 3 months ago as an "SAS Build" and then there is a new guy 2 posts down with "Help me with my SAS Build". So I go to the SAS Build thread to see if the new guy has posted. If he has not then he gets the normal link for the "Search Button and nothing else. Now if the new guy was to post the question in the "SAS Build" then that is alright cause he has made the attempt to search for what he needs. You do get the post every once in a while that has no info in the search function and that is where I will help and post links. Like I said, I'm all for helping the new guy as long as he has helped himself first.

They found TRS by searching the intronets..... Yet they cant search a site?
LAZY LAZY LAZY!

No this isnt pirate, thank god, but people need to do some leg work themselves.

Damn.... Some of you guys are just mean spirited. I have noticed that many of the people that don't search first are teenagers that just got their first Ranger. Why be mean to them? Give them a bit of advice, post a couple of thread links, and suggest the search. I have seen many a member being UNNECESSARILY RUDE about the search function. Part of that could be due to the misleading nature of that Google custom search tag. Maybe if it said: "Search this site with Google custom search." part of the problem would diminish. You also forget the youthful exuberance of getting your first vehicle and wanting to know all about it.

I guess in short what I am saying is you will get more respect by being a mentor than a menace and some of the "You should learn to use the search." guys responses can be quite intimidating.

We can get mean...yes. Defensive mean. But only after that person was shown the "SEARCH" button and has not did his leg work and keeps asking no matter what. Really mean after he starts to cuss us out cause the lazy part of him doesn't even make an attempt to search and starts a whole other new post to ask what he already has. I'll call his bluff on that one by post the original post that he started with. I have been here for a while.....even before TRS was in the old forums. I was a new guy too and can relate...but I searched and brought some knowledge to the site with me.
