Ive been thinking bout pouring some seafoam down in my gas tank hoping to make my truck run better and get better fuel mileage with my 2.9 :headbang: If anybody has done this please let me know how it worked for you.

I have done it, with no ill side affects. almost certain that many others have as well. There is no magic can of solutions...good maintenance is the best cure.

Just write down milage prior to trying and after ....so you have a better understanding of whats been possibilly improved. or current undesired symtom.

What are you trying to correct/ improve ???
 
I didn't notice it a lot, but I'm still diagnosing some problems. It does seem to run better after running some cleaner through.

First time i used it was this last winter on an engine i thought was "warm". last time I used it (about a month ago, warmer weather and replaced thermostat to a hotter one (195F) and ran the motor so it was good and hot), i ran some through my PVC line and had smoke POURING out the drivers side of the motor. Of course, i didn't have a flashlight handy but I suspect it was coming from my exhaust, possibly bad gaskets on the pipe (which may explain part of my crappy mileage). after I turned the motor off and let it sit for a few minutes, i couldn't get it to smoke that much out the side of the motor again.

although a little OT, anyone got suggestions how to visually check for exhaust gasket leaks? i know i got a couple for sure.

I'd do a compression check and note PSI levels

(BTW..the excessive smoke is normal when pouring this in the PVC..but should end as soon as the engine finishes buring it out

One has to be carefull about pouring this thru the PVC line, it is designed to remove lots of carbon and works well, and if you have a excessive amount of build up it can shake loose larger chunks and get stuck under valves...creating a worse running condition than desired.

Also, if you pour it in to fast you can hydrolock the engine.

give it a high idle 1000-1500rpm, get a couple more cans, try a nother can ...very slow pour 1/2 to a can again thru the PVC . put the other can in the gas tank and the remainder of the 1st. hopefully it will come out of it... drive it a bit....then recheck the compression to see if it improved or got worse

If not improved, you prolly should remove the heads and get a valve job

exhaust leaks can make the O2 sensor have mis/ poor readings too.

Most just run it thru the PVC vacuum line....or the gas tank.
if you want to flush your oil and crankcase too...thinking it can be added to the motor oil....BUT...I wouldn't leave there too long.

the best cleaner for your crankcase is good quality clean engine oil, and changing it regularly. I swapped motors about 6k miles ago, I changed the oil after about 100 miles, it was disgustingly black. At 3,000 miles it was much cleaner, and at 6,000 it was even better. I run Castrol oil and Napa Gold filters, I've had good luck with them.
