Seafoam

ive gone through 2 and a half cans in the gas tank and half a can in the oil .... she still spits and sputters sometimes...mostly when she gets warm.... this vaccum deal which hose do i use and how much SHOULD i use?

Lol, wow. I Seafoamed my engine today.

I had the engine idling as I poured in the Seafoam. I found it to be easier than I expected. I thought I'd be spilling the stuff all over, but by pouring it into a vacuum line, it did most of the aiming work for me. ;)

I let it sit for 8 minutes and then started the engine. I immediately heard spark knock, which it had NEVER done before. It cleared up as soon as the engine started though. It was just at the first .5 seconds of the engine starting.

I ran it at 2000 RPM for probably 5 minutes or so. Then I revved it up to 3500 and let it idle back down. I did this a couple times, and then ran it at 3000 for about 30 seconds. I held it at 2000 RPM again for a few more minutes.

I was surprised at how much white smoke was coming out of the exhaust and I was starting to wonder if it was ever going to end, lol. I think I ran the engine for about 15 minutes with varied RPMs. I didn't drive my truck though, I just worked the throttle for a while. After the white smoke cleared, I shut the engine off.

I plan on replacing the spark plugs now as it needs a tune up anyway and after reading the comments here about Seafoam, I decided to try it for myself.

so where are the steps exactly, cuz i know absofreakinloutly nothing about engines, so where is the vacuum tube and where am i supposed to stall it at? in a 93 ranger v6 3l sorry for being ignorant lol

Take the brake booster vacuume line off, pour about 1/2-3/4 of the can into a glass cup, start the engine and use the booster vacuume hose as a vacuume untill it is all gone. Shut off the engine immidetly and let it sit for 5 - 10 minuits. Dump the rest of the can in your fuel tank. after waiting, start the engine and rev the snot out of it untill the white smoke is gone (try not to red line it too much). I wouldn't recomend doing this procedure more than once every six months. This product works excelent! :headbang: Hope this helps.

you guys talked me into it. went out and bought a can and am going to give it a try tomorrow

This whole Seafoam thing sounds too good to be true to me; do we actually know that all the smoke which is causes is actually carbon and other deposits burning off? I mean, it would seem to me that it could very easily just be the Seafoam itself burning and giving the appearance of cleaning out the engine. I'm skeptical and don't want to be just another sucker for a scam product. Not saying it is a scam, but is there any real solid evidence out there that the smoke is actually deposits burning and not simply the seafoam (which could easily be formulated to burn with a ton of smoke)

Well, it 'could' be the seafoam smoking. Although, when you are applying it to the vacuum system (VERY SLOWLY, not just pour it in) the engine is burning said 'scam' and it does not smoke to high heaven. Only once the engine is stalled out and has a chance to sit and then be re-started does it smoke for 10-15 minutes. Now I doubt that there is still a load of seafoam in the intake and cylinders after 10 minutes of high rpm running to create the amount of smoke that is out the tailpipe.

You best bet would be to use Google and do some research for yourself. A fair number of us on here have used Seafoam and are pleased with it. If you don't believe us then spend some time and do your own research.

Just my $.02.

I'd have to agree with this, as thats exactly what happened. There was NO smoke until after the engine had been shut off and I let it sit for 8 minutes.

When it started up, it was like my engine was turned into a huge white fog machine, lol.

I've always been a bit skeptical of it as well. I bought it when it was on sale at carquest for 7 bucsk a can. I tried lighting a puddle of it on the ground outside just to see and it just burns blue like butane with no smoke. So that leads me to the conclusion that its either pressure activated and it's a rip-off or it actually works. I wanna try adding pure gasoline into the intake some day and see if it does anything...I might go try that right now.

ive used it and we went till it stalled...still runs...was fun though after, did it on halloween and smoked out a few tricker-treaters

I just dumped a half a can of Seafoam in my Explorer and it didn't smoke a bit... I'm pretty sure if Seafoam itself smoked it would have...

how would it hydrolock? u cant even get that much in fast enough to get it to do that...i put it in until mine stalled and 5 minutes later started it up and it all still works

EDIT: 1st one didnt post right away so i put up another one, for some reason it pushed the first one throught too

i was pretty pleased with the it. it didnt smoke near as much as some that i have seen but i have also cleaned the injectors and everything before. hell, i would do it again purely for the entertainment factor of it

After 3 pages of mostly postive feedback, I am going to do it this weekend before I change my oil. :icon_thumby:

Did it, noticed not a HUGE difference, but there is one. Truck idles better, has a little more pep, I like it. Not as much smoke when I started it, but ran in through the rms a little bit then took it for a spin down the road and there was a slight trail of smoke though. All in all, good product. :icon_thumby:
