ok double checked end play right on the end of the crank, looks like I've got 0.006. What was the spec for that?
And I think the mystery is solved. I took the flywheel off, and there is a spot on my brand new rear main seal that's worn right to the metal. The rear main seal walked rearwards till it contacted the flywheel.
So, how do I prevent that? Did I not seat it far enough? How far do I push it? Till it stops?
WEll I spoke too soon...according to the book crankshaft end play is .004-.008
with a MAX out of service of .0012
earlier I was going off memory and thought it was .004-.006...so you're OK but maybe on the high end. just to make sure that you were measuring end play and not run out?
as to the rear main seal...can't recall if it is flush or recessed ...book says to use seal driver T72C-6165hven't been able to find any info on actual dimensions for the seal driver it self.
maybe go to parts store and ask for the seal driver....and measure it
