I need something to drive in the winter but im not sure if its worth fixing up my old truck its an 87 ranger ext cab 4x4 5 speed, 2.9l. It has decent mud tires and aluminum rims. the interior is ok the body is rough but that doesnt bother me. what it needs: transmission, fuel pump, ball joints, tie rod ends, battery, electric 4x4 shift motor. As it sits now i have 500 in it. I found a freshly rebuilt trans and tcase for 225. i was thinkin sell the tcase and use the trans. I can get all the other odds n ends off ebay for about anther $150. What do you all think is it worth it or cut my losses and scrap it?:icon_confused:

theres a pic of the ole beauty lol the camaro in the back ground is why i need a winter vehicle

rebuild it man. you cant beat a 1st gen 4x4 ranger. soild, dependable truck, rebuild and enjoy the spoils ...ok, after seeing the pic i fully understand y now. i think it would be cheaper to fix that up than to spend more money on another used truck or 4x4 just to find out new issues when you already know what is wrong with what you have.

Well you say you need something for this winter. 225+150=375 So in all you will have 875 in it. Not to bad for a winter truck imo.

^^^ see thats kinda how im leaning cuz i cant find another 4x4 for less than a grand really....the other day i missed out on a cl steal guy had a rebuilt motor trans and t case for an 87 he sold for $200 :bawling:.

anyone know how much i can get for a rebuilt 83 t case? i dont rly need it and that could go towards other parts............i would be sad to see it go its a fun truck especially when im use to having to be anal about my car. i crash this truck through all kinds of shit and just laugh it off lol

Man that's a nice truck. If it were me I'd fix it.

Fix It! Fix It Naow! Where are you, if you are close enough I'll come help fix it once mine is running again. I just need a starter.

^^appreciate the offer but im in missouri lol ive pretty much decided to keep it and put some money into it.......o ya the radio and speakers are non existent idk what to do about that.

^^^ Ipod/Zune/your melodous voice?^^^

I would just fix it, Looks like a decent truck nust needs a bit o love, if you do your own work yourself it would be awesome.

Just get everything done then take it for an alignment if you feel like it then you have a perfectly capable 4x4 for winter.

as far as speakers i can't help you there but the radio i got a factory one that will fit and if you want it just pay the shipping and it is yours am/fm cassette

I was about to make the same offer, mine is in less than great shape and requires the dash right above it to be smacked every so often for it to work properly. I actually cracked my dash pad one day doing that.

this one worked fine when i removed it to install my cd player. funny thing is it has better receive that the radio i replaced it with but i don't own any cassettes

thanks guys but im just gona try putting a cheap cd player in it....im pretty sure about half the wireing is damaged and missing to though and im not so great with electronics but i will be doing all the mechanical work on it should be fun if nothin else

A good pair of wire strippers will be your best friend for working on the stereo. The wiring for a stereo isn't that hard. Try to find a wiring diagram for the stereo to see what you still have. http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/radio_wiring_diagrams.html might help, or just google it. Spend the couple of bucks and by some wire connectors, don't just twist the wires together.
