Scout II

[1987 DANGER RANGER]

Hello its been awhile since I posted so first off Happy New Year to everyone. Okay with that out of the way my ? is about a Scout II. I'm looking at getting a 80 Scout II 4x4 4sp with a 4cly on propane. Dana 44's front and rear with 4.56 gears with mini spools front and rear and a D-20 tcase. It has been SOA and the front axle has been cut and turned so its correct. Full roll cage with five 34x9.50 ltb's. No glass in the top and the doors dont fit due to the cage. It also comes with extra axles D-44 f/r and a 727. The body's not to bad and most of the rust in the floor has been fixed. He wants $1800.00 for it all. I dont know a whole lot about Scouts but for my area this is a really good price. So what do you guys thinks. It will mostly be a trail rig.

I read 4cyl scoutII? Does that mean it's the diesel scout? uber rare.


I'm no ace or claim to know it all or whatever, but no top and no doors to me because of the cage = poorly designed cage. Once had a '72 ScoutII half cab and I loved the thing. Very easy to work on, fun to drive even with no power anything and it being on 33's. Loved that thing. Guy who bought it off us spring overed it on 60's, full cage, 383'd it, 203/205 dual, and had it on I wanna say 42's? It was a bad ass. Too bad he endoed it.

Yeah, it is a slant 4. IH took a intersting route and cut down a V-8 to make a four banger, makes a very neat looking and overbuilt four banger.

BUY IT!!!! Seriously... I can't even find a decent stock on around here for that price... paid 3200 for my '79... If it runs and drives, I'd buy it.

When I was growing up my dad had two scouts...both were '62's. If I ever find one, I will definitely buy it.

In fact...he has one of these blocks in his garage. Its just sitting there in the same spot for 20+ yrs....
