I am looking to upgrade the scope on my target gun , my current set-up is as follows

Rifle : .22 Caliber Savage Arms Mark II Bolt Action
Scope : Simmons Blazer 3 - 9x40
Bipod : Winchester 9 - 13" Adjustable

basically all i do with this gun is got to a range and target shoot , i have it set where i can put most 5/10 in the center of the target at 100 yds , i need a little more practice before i can call myself a marksman , but i want to upgrade my scope too , does anyone have any opinion on what the best brand for the money is , what style to get , etc. , etc.

Bushnell scopes are good for the cost. I have a Bushnell 3-9x40 on my .22 Marlin 60. Does good for the price I got at it (gun & scope was around $160, new). Then I have a Bushnell Banner 4-12x40 that is also okay, but lacked the light grasping power that I need for those early morning hunts. Pentex GameSeeker 3-9x40 with DOA. I use this one now on the Rem 700 30-06, has the light grasping power that I want. But after my dad said that the field of view is narrow. Now it bugs me a little and I my upgrade once again. And if I do, it will be a 50mm objective lens.

Very few Bushnell scopes are going to materially improve upon the Simmons
you already have.

As for getting 5/10 in "the center of the target" at 100yds, that's damned
good for a 22lr.

I also have a Simmons Rimfire scope on my 22 Rifle (a Bicentennial edition Ruger 10-22)
and more often than not in good light I can SEE the bullets hit the target at 50yards

22 is slowing down quite a bit at 100yds and those bullets are a
plaything of the wind. If you want MUCH more precision
you need to step up to something with more authority.

You really want fun? get a bolt action Varmint Rifle in 223Rem
and start handloading.

a .22 can shoot 100yrds accurately because i shoot arrows and pen at a hundred yards with no problem it all depends on what type of ammo your gun likes and wither you gun shoots better clean or dirty and the slower the ammo the better you will shoot because it does not heat the barrel up as much and distort it and your scope should be fine for what your are shooting... Just remember when you go up in power it shows you how much you shake and even your heart beat in the scope!!!!
You don't need a bigger bullet for that range just tune it so everything works together and works!!!!

righ now i am using Remington Thunderbolt's , i got 3 bricks of them for 12 bucks a piece at an auction

the "3-9" means the magnification can be adjusted from 3 power to nine power like a zoom lens on a camera. The "40" is the size in millimeters of the objective lens basically the diameter of the front lens group
