school me on welders?

I never had any issues with scrap metal. I always just brush it off first with a wide wire brush and wipe it off with steel wool. All my welds have held perfectly. Don't spend hours cleaning up scrap metal. You could clean it like I do....weld, and bend, weld, and then bolt it on your truck....check the fitment and then paint it and enjoy your work in no time!!!

I would start off with a harbor freight one when i learned to weld at school we used millers didn't have much of any problems with them but they are kinda pricey word of advice remember ur electric bill one time i went crazy welding a hole bunch of stuff and my bill was thur the roof

My only advice on this is DO NOT buy regular price from Harbor Freight....

I have a $200 welder from there, but got it 50% off. (Mines from Princess Auto, but thats just the Canadian equivalent.)

Dont ever buy expensive (read over $20) items for regular price at Harbor Freight, they have a new sale every week or two, and practically EVERYTHING they carry ends up in the flyer for at least 25% off at some point.

this is what I was goih to do. Right now they have 100$ off the welder I wanna pick up. I was going to use a coupon too.

How much can using a welder quite abit spike the electricity bills by? At one time I ran a program 24/7 for an entire month on my computer and the bill went up 200$ I'm assuming welders are not energy star approved =P

It's like opening up all 4 barrels during a drag race... You are going to suck a lot of juice but it won't be for very long so in the big scheme of things it won't make a huge difference. I can't say I can even tell a difference when I weld from regular power tool and light usage.
