its in my new to me 2003 ford escape 4x4
I'm clueless as to what I can do to it if it has any potential or if I should just turnit into a boring dd

maybe try a Taurus or Contour forum to see what they are doing???

and of course google, there are a few links there.

not trying to shoo you off, just think more info may be there.

They are good engines but I have never seen much done to one.

I worked at a dealer for 42 years and can't recall a problem with a 3.0 Duratec specifically and very few with Escapes in general. I've owned 2 new Escapes, a 2011 and a 2016. When I retired in 17, I had an Escape, as did both my service advisors,2 techs, the body shop managers ex wife(they were still married when they bought it), 2 salesmen, one lady in accounting, and the GM. Keep up with the maintenance and it will treat you well.

Thank you thats a lot of what I've been hearing

they do make a blower for it if anyone was wondering. Extra 80 hp not really worth the time

40% increase in power would definitely make it on my "worth the time" list. Lift it an inch or two, slap some skidplates on it, all terrains.. Blower.. It would be a great light duty offroader.

Already got the only 2in lift they make in my shopping cart and a set of 30in mts on the way. Haha

no way I was going to drive a 4x4 and not lift it and throw some real tread on.

Be careful with the big tires and blower, you'll find out if the trans and PTU are up to the job.

I have a 2011 escape awd. Love it! put on a brush guard, step bars, trailer hitch & window ventvisors. Bought it about 6 months ago. Ive towed with it some and am quite impressed with it. Have gotten 20mpg highway with it. Rides nice, plenty of power. I didnt like the underneath spare so its now in the back and have a removeable shelf over top of it. Its my girl’s daily driver and Im behind the wheel on the weekends (and I seen to be the one filling the tank then too) Id have another. I did breifly own a older one, bought it for 200, it didnt run and was going to be a major headache so I sent it on down the road.

I had the predecessor 2.5 Duratec V6 in my '99 Cougar, it was a great engine. One of Ford's best I think.
