Ok here is the plan:
I'm ordering a 8" MB Quart sub. I was wondering about taking a 10" piece of Schd 80 pipe, two glue caps, and two rubber flange gastkets to make a "tube". Cut out one end for the sub to mount in, and on the other the connetion for the wires.
I have already done the "volume of a cylinder" formula and know the necessary legnth of pipe to give the correct cubic feet that the sub requires.

Good idea or not? I need input from someone with knowledge in the area of boxes.

so i assume you have heard of bazooka tubes, but don't want the sub that comes in them?

i don't see why it would be a bad idea... i mean air volume is air volume... doesn't matter if it's in a cylinder, triangular prism, or cube...

Might be a stupid question, but I plan on cutting gaskets for the sub and connector. This will pretty much make this thing completely air tight, is that going to be ok? Or do I need to possibly port the tube? I read that it ports with a 2"x6" port. Again, any and all input.

its your choice, porting it make the bass louder i think... but i personally think enclosed subs sound better. some subs will come with a ported and non ported enclosure reccomended size.

Your first stop should be on the interweb at.......

http://www.audiokarma.org/

There are more audio engineer's there than you can shake a stick at and more tutorials than you can read in a year.
These people live to help others.
P.S. look up the Thiel-Small parameters of your Driver (Think Sub) that should be posted on the MB Quart website.
PPS check out the prices at Partsexpress, That's one place we Audio Guy's go to get our raw part's.
Good luck,
Jim

Ted for President
Ron for Vice
I think Ted has the bigger, badder set of cojones of the two.
Plus we'd get to see more of Charmaine that way.
