My credo
My world is filled with stuff that needs to be fixed
Just daydreaming but thought that would be a cool and unusual swap. Probably would fit without too much difficulty.

Good luck finding a RWD trans for it.

I think they used a different bolt pattern then anything else

Interesting - I assumed that since it's based on the Duratec V6 it would use a similar bellhousing pattern, but you never know.

I thought the 3.4 was a yamaha design?

From what little I knew it was similar to the earlier SHO V6, in that it was based on the dimensions of the Duratec V6 but massaged by Yamaha. This was a 60deg V8, essentially a Duratc 2.5 with 2 more cylinders. Apparently they had cam sprocket problems because Yamaha swedged the sprockets on the cam, so they had to be welded or pinned.

Hmm 6bt adapter looks close. Rime too talk to my buddy with the cnc machine at work

The Taurus had two different automatic transmissions between 1996 and 1999, when that engine was used in the SHO. Both transmissions (AX4S and AX4N were used with the Vulcan engine (that we also have in our Rangers), although not very many Vulcans got the AX4S. The SHO got the AX4N exclusively in that generation, if I recall correctly.

I'm guessing here, but I would guess that any RWD transmission that will bolt up to a Vulcan engine (for use in the Ranger) will bolt up to the SHO V8.

from what I've read the 3.4 v8 SHO has the same bell housing as a Duratec 2.5 V6. not sure about the 3.0 Duratec.

sources: SHOFORUM.com & V8SHO.com and of course WIKI

That is what I was guessing too.

The Duratec V6's are the same, people swap the 3.0 into cougars where the 2.5 was.

It would be a unique swap but I don't know how long a V6 SHO clutch would live behind a 3.4. Early SHO clutches failed early and often until Ford upgraded them and added about 1/2" to the diameter of the clutch by using a cast iron pressure plate hat that allowed the pressure plate and disc surface to grow. Seems like and awful difficult and expensive swap to do if you're not going to be able to drive it hard.
