I'm putting a 87' Waggy D44 under my Ranger. I want as little lift as possible, but I expect to get around 6". Which leafs do you guys recommend that would work well for this setup? I plan on running 35s. I've read that using the stock Waggy leaf springs work ok and then adding a leaf or 2 if needed for more lift. Any other ideas?

I've also heard the ride with leaf springs is terrible. I know it won't be good, but is it that bad?

Thanks

I used toyota truck front springs with one leaf added from a rear toyota pack. I got about 6" lift when I did the SAS, but the srpings were totally flat at ride height.

but over the last year they've sagged a little to where they're actually inverted at ride height. The height it actually perfect for the 33's I'm running now.

My goal is to run some 35's, when I do that I'm gonna add another leaf to the front packs (a long toy rear leaf) and that should get me about that should get me about 2 more inches, which should be just about right.

but as for ride, it rides way better than it did stock. Mine was ttb, though - I hated the stiff ttb ride. It now rides smooth and straight down the road it might be a little too soft for some, but not too bad.

I'd like to have a little longer spring for more flex, though - toy springs and wrangler springs are about 45" - I think if I had to start over, I'd try waggy stockers (about 48") or maybe toy rears.

I think leafs ride good if you pick the right ones. but if you have the money, I'd go links and coils. I did leafs only because it was the cheapest way to go for me at the time.

Thanks Slammer, I have the stock Waggy leafs, but I'd have to look at them again as I think one side of the pair is damaged. I saw your thread on R-F and I like your truck. Right now the axle is being rebuilt and geared (5.13). I spoke to one shop who insisted that I should go with coilovers and that leafs will ride like total crap. After searching around the forums the right leaves will make it ride decent enough. I'm just trying to see what guys run which leafs and what tire/lift combo as well.

Any idea if the rear Ranger leafs would work ok? I'd probably have to add a short and long leaf like you're having to do with the Toyota leafs.

There are some using ranger rear leafs, but I think they'd be really long - 56" i believe

they'd probably flex good if you could get them to fit.

there are some using older chevy springs - 52" springs I think. It seems like they would ride stiff to me.
