SAS What kind of suspension is this?

Haven't broke anything on it yet, and they put 8.8's under 351 powered fullsizes until 96' so I'm not worried. As long as your not stupid with the skinny pedal they should be fine....the fullsize d44 was gonna get cut down so I'd gain pinion height and turn the knuckles for caster at the same time....the 14bolt it there just cuz....they're cheap and available and it makes a good anchor....

agreed that throttle control is key. im gonna need a 14 bolt :icon_rofl:

But back on topic....If Dany77/Danyokim77 wants an SAS done, and wants to save some money, pm me if interested. I'd be willing to work out costs with you, and give you a run down of materials etc, so if you do take it to a shop you won't get bent over.

Danyokim77 - I'd be interested in your front end lift if you go SAS. Have you regeared, if so, to what? And what brand lift, extended RA's?

wahlstrom1 - I'd be interested in that offer as well. Would you be able to pm me an approx. cost for that?

Also, anybody near edmonton or vancouver wanting to make some money regearing a couple axles??

I'll work out a price list and pm it to ya, where abouts are the axles you want regeared? I'm back and forth to edmonton all the time, and live in red deer so it's not too far of a drive anyways.

You know I just might take you up on that offer. I have two brothers who live in Edmonton (Beaumont) and I'm there quite a bit. Could maybe trailer the truck to ya when the time comes. Do you have your own shop where you do this work? I'll PM ya for more details.

Regarding the front suspension after I go to a SAS... Would i need to buy a whole new suspension lift to lift it again? I really don't know how that works... sorry, I know you guys really know your stuff, I hate sounding so uninformed... but I'm on the right site to get educated, right?!!

Haven't done gears yet. Just the lift kit, BDS 6", Steering Stabilizer...

The truck is really clean and was very well kept. I bought it stock just over a year ago from a guy who had it sitting in his garage for the entire year before that. No oil leaks what so ever. Solid truck... My Stepdad noticed it sitting in the guys garage with year old temp insurance decals on the canopy. Truck wasn't even for sale until my stepdad asked him about it and then the guy said he would take $4000 for it. Little to say I was over there the next day with money in hand waiting to drive the truck away !! :icon_thumby:

Don't be so quick to SAS, you just lifted your truck. Throw a locker out back and go have some fun and work your way up.

So they make a 100% bolt on SAS kit? using just coils? Interesting. Can you tell me more or what I could use to search for more on this topic. Is it an EB kit?

It's not a kit, it's just how I built my truck. The only part thats modified is the pitman arm which is reamed out for a larger tapered TRE. I'll make a thread with all the build details, parts and prices (in Can$ as I bought them).

Hahnsb2: I agree completely. Although I lifted mine 2WD, and I decided to grow up to 4WD, and SAS was the easiest and cheapest in my eyes.

I feel like somewhere I saw bolt-up kits for a HPD44, but they WERE NOT cheap, maybe like $2000 just for the kit (no axle or axle parts).

If money is an issue, I personally found it cheaper and easier to build a leaf-spring suspension. Half because I am a n00b at building suspensions (and could thus do it at home buy myself with a buzz box and hand tools), and the other half because it was significantly cheaper. I'm not gonna set any records, but I am also impressed with my $180 Pro Comp leaves and their flex.

^^^ My opinion only.

I don't think you understand how an sas works, it is not something you add to what you have. It stands for solid axle swap which means everything under the front of your truck now gets cut out. Axle, springs, steering etc. Then a straight axle is put under in its place. You will be buying new springs to use with your new solid axle and this is where you will decide how much lift you want to run. A 5.5" eb coil with coil buckets in stock place will give you about 8" of lift. If you have a 6" lift on your rear already you can prob leave it as it is and it will be pretty close to level with your new front setup. If its hangin as* low you can get a set of belltech 6400 shackles which wil give you about 2" more of lift out back. However you should try to keep the center of gravity as low as possible. Chances are if you do not know exactly what an sas is or entails you do not need one. Wheel with your 6" lift and do some research on what you want your next step to be. An SAS is not for looks or simply clearing that next tire size, its fro articulation and strength on the trail. You should be able to clear 35's already with a 6" lift, if not, although I don't advise them for extreme offroad and assuming you wheel mildly a 2" body lift would take care of that. good luck

x2 on what these guys said.

Before you start buying parts for a SAS, just get out there and wheel you truck. Meet other people, make some friends, get into a club, and learn what your truck wheels like as it is now.

Then you can add a locker and see how big of a difference that is, and figure out why you want to regear and why you want bigger tires and the difference between differnt types of suspensions ect...

that truck belongs to kurt eriksen of Pleasant Hill CA.
heres the skinny on that truck and suspension set up:
4.0V6, 4spd Auto, 8 inch Fabritech Lift, 1971 Bronco Dana 44 front end with ARB, 4 Rancho 9way shocks and F250 steering linkage. 9inch Currie rear, 35 spline axles with a Detroit Locker and Rancho 9way shocks. 4.56 gears, 33x12.5 SuperSwamper SSRs with American Racing Baja rims. 4 wheel disk brakes, Duff front disk brake conversion kit, extended brake lines, Duff front and rear bumpers, Duff replacement body mounts.

that fabritech kit is crap, its good for a show truck and thats about it.

im in souther bc and im faced with making a bolt on sas with coils for my 86 ranger.... sholdnt be to bad
